A rural community with a rich history of family farming and Chesapeake Bay watermen, St. Mary's County history dates back to the early 1600's.  It is the site of the first capitol of Maryland, St. Mary's City.<\/p>\n<p>St. Mary's County is also the home of the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division as well as St. Mary's College of Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>I often joke with friends that it takes me a while to get anywhere because I have to travel an hour north to go south.
